Mavis Brenya, Batiker

Mavis Brenya joined Global Mamas in March 2008 at age 39.  She is from the Eastern region of Ghana, and currently works in Elmina.   She joined at a time when she was unemployed, but now is very busy filling orders. She is an experienced batiker, who particularly enjoyed the challenge of making the complex designs for the Global Mamas 2009 catalogue.  Mavis works in her house, but hopes that by reinvesting her proceeds into business materials, she will be able to secure a store to sell batiking materials along side her finished work.   To help her with her workload, she has hired three workers, at the same time experiencing a threefold increase in her income.  As well as enjoying a more reliable stream of work, she has bought seven bowls for dying and a table for stamping, and learned valuable bookkeeping skills.
