Felicia Gordon, Seamstress
Batiking & Sewing Center (Cape Coast)
Felicia Gorden has always prided herself in the quality of her work, but working with Global Mamas has given her a new sense that her attention to detail and –as she calls it- neatness – is important to women around the world. Like most Ghanaian seamstresses, she began as an apprentice before she was 20, working for the shop Madame. Now she is a mother of 3 children (ages 3, 11, and 18) and she is now the Madame, with 3 young women working with her. Before working with Global Mamas, her work came primarily from individuals who respected the quality of the clothes she would design and make especially for these customers. She still does work for other customers, but her volume has increased quickly and her main specialty for Global Mamas has been skirts and baby slippers. These were new patterns for her to consider, which was one of the reasons she became interested in the Global Mamas network. 'I want to keep learning new things every day' says Felicia. Thank you for welcoming Felicia as a Global Mama and supporting her focus on quality work and continuous learning!
